--> Violent Video Game's NOT a Factor in VT Shootings
By Humphrey Cheung: "Blacksburg (VA) - Police and news media are still trying to figure out what caused Virginia Tech student Cho Seung-Hui to kill himself along with 32 classmates and teachers, but so far violent video games don’t appear to be a factor. In a search warrant performed on the same night as the April 16th killings, police found chains, tools, computers and compact discs, but no games. Almost immediately after the shootings, Dr. Phil McGraw and Jack Thompson appeared on major news networks and tried to link Seung-Hui’s shootings to violent video game play.
Virginia State Police searched Seung-Hui’s room at around 9:06 PM on April 16th and recovered 16 pieces of evidence. Most of the items were fairly average including combination locks, notepads and documents, but police also grabbed the killer’s Compaq computer, two cases of compact disks and an 80 GB hard drive. CNN has obtained a copy of the search warrant and the list of items collected. You can read that document here . You can see from the list that no video game boxes, joysticks, controller pads or software were seized. There were also no game consoles in the dorm room, indeed Seung-Hui’s roommate has told police and reporters that he’s never saw the killer play any video games. Of course, the police could still find games on the hard drives or compact discs, but, at this point, it does not appear that video games of any kind played any factor in Seung-Hui’s rampage."
O.K. I predicted this would happen instead of looking at the real causes like maybe the shooter is fucking crazy or evil, people blame things they don't understand. Of course fat ass fuck nut Dr. Phil from Oprah sticks his foot in his fat mouth and basically says video games influenced him in some way to do it. Dr. Phil is a retard that has never played a video game in his life. If he had he would know that its just a fucking game.
I'm sure the first game that he would bring up is violent sandbox style games like GTA and its ten million "thugged out" clones. However, these games suck ass. I played GTA 3 and never finished it. The violent games I play are more warfare and tactical oriented. Real gamers like games that are going to challenge them. If they made a game that was just about shooting innocent people that didn't fight back it would be very boring. Even a sadistic person would loose interest. The fun part about games is the challenge. Over coming incredible odds and seeing your character progress and/or evolve can be rewarding. The basic elements that make a good game are the same elements that would make a good movie or novel. Plus with online gaming you can share that experience in ways not possible with other media.
O.K. so jumping back to Cho, they search his room and they didn't find any games. Why where they looking for games? What's with the fucking video game witch hunt. It doesn't make any sense at all. People get killed in Shakespeare's plays, maybe they should be looking for copy's of Hamlet. Games are the next generation of art and media. They are a way to communicate to others. Like any media games are a reflection of our culture. We may not always like the things expressed in art but, the bottom line is that we have freedom of speech. If a game offends you then don't buy it. The same freedoms that protect games that you may not like also protect your right to say you that they offend you.
I would like to express my sorrow for everyone involved.
